Lancaster City and County Medical Society Is On the Move
Helping to Build a Better Future for Medicine in Lancaster County
Founded in 1844, The Lancaster City and County Medical Society (LCCMS) is proud of its past, but is sharply focused on the current and future needs of physicians. The Board of Directors is just completing an update of the Strategic Plan that will add value to membership and to the community.

To provide improved access for members, the Society’s office recently moved to Urban Place (across from the Lancaster Science Factory) at 480 New Holland Avenue, Suite 8202 in Lancaster. Located on the outskirts of Lancaster City near Burle Business Park, this new facility provides members with a large parking area and handicap access.
The office is conveniently located just off of the New Holland Avenue Exit of U.S. Route 30.
LCCMS now provides the following services to members:
-
Annual legislative breakfast with county and state officials held by the Society’s political action committee provides an opportunity for you to talk to your legislator one-on-one. The LCCMS Board of Directors actively lobby for MCARE relief. Additional legislation aimed at providers, along with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement levels are a real threat to organized medicine as we know it today. It is important that we speak with one, loud voice. That is why LCCMS works with Carl Manelius and Jo Ann Lawer of LGH to coordinate our message and interaction with public officials.
-
Practice Administrator Membership provides support and access to information that is beneficial to your practice If you are a medical student, resident, fellow or retired physician, your membership is either free or significantly discounted.
-
Strategic Planning Task Force Committees provide opportunities to serve your profession at the local level as a Committee Member, a director on the board, or a delegate to the Pennsylvania Medical Society Annual Meeting.
-
The Lancaster County Medical Foundation programs provide access to medical care for those in need through the volunteer services of our generous Lancaster County physicians and the PALCO Program.
-
Lancaster County Business Group on Health, an affiliate of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce provides LCCMS with a standing seat on their board which gives physicians a voice as providers and as employers in LCBGH’s decision making process.
-
PMS Board of Trustees or one of their governing councils has opportunities to serve through the recommendation of LCCMS. Several Lancaster County Physicians currently serve in these capacities.
-
Partnership between LCCMS and PMS provides state support and resources to the County Medical Society.
-
Cell phone discounts for members have been negotiated through a local Verizon Wireless vendor.
-
Scholarships to medical students are awarded through the Lancaster Medical Society Foundation. Donations from the LGH medical staff have assisted in making this foundation a viable resource for Lancaster County students entering medical school.
