Dr. Lee "Monty" Duke Named Senior V.P.
& Chief Physician Officer for Lancaster General
 
Lee Duke II, M.D.Lee “Monty” Duke, M.D., a pulmonologist with Pulmonary Associates of Lancaster, has been named the Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive for Lancaster General.  The appointment, effective May 1, was announced by Thomas E. Beeman, President & CEO of Lancaster General.  He succeeds Dr. Bruce Pokorney, who retired  last year.
 
As Chief Physician Executive, Dr. Duke will hold primary responsibility for creating a positive and contemporary climate for medical affairs across the system.  He will be accountable for facilitating medical staff planning and development, physician leadership development, clinical program improvement, outcomes management, patient safety, technology and innovation, resource management and clinical effectiveness.
 
As a member of Lancaster General’s Executive Leadership Team, he will also help lead physician credentialing and graduate medical education.  He will also play a major role in charting strategy related to Lancaster General’s future and alignment with its diverse and highly credentialed medical staff.
Since 1991, he has practiced as a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician with Pulmonary Associates of Lancaster, Ltd. holding several leadership positions and serving as a former health system trustee. Prior to coming to Lancaster, Dr. Duke worked at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, New York where he supervised and taught housestaff from the University of Vermont.
 
Dr. Duke holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA (1976) and became a Doctor of Medicine upon graduation from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1980.
 
He served his Internship in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham in Birmingham, AL (1980-81), a Residency in Internal Medicine Categorical Program at the University of Virginia (1985-87) and his Fellowship in Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases at the University of Rochester (1987-89).
 
Dr. Duke served as a Flight Surgeon and Chief of Aeromedical Services as Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York. During that period, he served several hospitals as an Emergency Room physician.
 
He has conducted several research studies and is certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He holds state licenses to practice in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
 
He is an Associate Member-American College of Physicians and a former Board Member-American Lung Association, Lancaster and Berks County Chapters.
 
Dr. Duke is married to Catherine who is a nurse and CPA. They have three children, Lindsay, Kelsey and Tyler. They reside in Lititz.
