Soft is a computer application used in a laboratory setting to handle the complex laboratory orders and results that are generated on a daily basis at Lancaster General Hospital, Women & Babies Hospital and off-site facilities. More than 4 million tests per year are processed, arriving from the emergency department, oupatient clients, the bedsides on all floors, operating rooms, Blood Bank, donor centers, ambulatory sites, and many more entities.
The flow of laboratory orders and results is connected with many other hospital systems including SMS (Siemens), Epic, Ibex , Sovera, Atlas, laboratory equipment and analyzers, handheld point of care devices, and reference laboratories. The Soft Laboratory system will interface and exchange information with a total of 15 other systems when it is live in February 2009. The project is large, complex, and much like peeling an onion with many, many layers. The implementation project is a testament to the hard work of many, many people within the organization and to the dedication of laboratory staff who have continued to support clinical needs while working through the implementation.
